Thomas Evans, Former Bankrate, Inc. CEO, Joins The Zebra as Adviser

Evans joins as adviser to nation’s most visited car insurance comparison website, bringing 40+ years of experience leading Bankrate, U.S. News & World Report, Yahoo! GeoCities, and as Chairman of Angie’s List

AUSTIN, Texas — March 28, 2017 The Zebra, the nation’s most visited online car insurance comparison marketplace, today announced the addition of Thomas Evans as adviser. Evans has consistently driven consumer companies spanning media, technology, and financial services to category leadership and was at the helm of Bankrate, Inc. during a time in which they were the single largest independent insurance acquisition channel.

The Zebra co-founders Adam Lyons, CEO, and Joshua Dziabiak, COO, believe Evans’ experience and insight working with the nation's largest insurance companies will help The Zebra continue to strengthen partnerships and redefine the way consumers compare and shop for property and casualty insurance products.

"I'm delighted to have joined the Advisory Board of The Zebra,” Evans said. “I have gotten to know Adam, Josh, and The Zebra team over the past several years and admire both what they've built as well as their approach to the business. I look forward to contributing to their further growth."

Evans’ career has been marked by successful roles as the President and Publisher of U.S. News & World Report, Atlantic Monthly and Fast Company; CEO of GeoCities, Inc., which sold to Yahoo in 1999 for $3.6 billion; and Chairman and CEO of Official Payments Corporation.

He then served for nearly 10 years as CEO of Bankrate, which provides rate comparison for products including mortgages, credit cards, and more. Evans grew revenues by more than 1,400% during his tenure and led Bankrate through a $1.5 billion initial public offering.

Evans is also a current board member, investor, and senior adviser in Angie’s List, Shutterstock, and Warburg Pincus.

“Tom’s experiences and pragmatic approach will be incredible assets to our team as we continue to innovate and shake up a massive financial services industry,” Lyons said. “His involvement bolsters our mission to educate consumers about the complexities of insurance and provide a seamless experience as they find the solution that best fits their needs.”
