Question

If I bought a car and the previous owner still has insurance on it, will I be able to insure the vehicle on my own policy?

I took the vehicle home, but the guy I bought the car from still has it covered on his policy. I'm worried about insuring the car under 2 different policies. Will I get in trouble for taking out coverage on the vehicle myself?

Yes, you should insure the vehicle as soon as you take possession of it. You don't have to wait for the policy of the previous owner to cancel, nor should you. As long as you don't attempt to file a claim on the other driver's policy for the vehicle you just purchased, you shouldn't have to worry about the coverage overlap. To find the best rate to insure you car, we recommend shopping with as many companies as possible.
