Question

Can I buy my own policy if I am under 18?

I'm 16 and just finished fixing up a car but my parents won't cover me on their insurance. I also need to register it and the clerk told me that I need to have insurance on the vehicle before they will issue my tag. I've been told that I can't get my own insurance since I'm under 18. Is that true?

Since it is possible to have a vehicle titled and registered in your name while under the age of 18 then there are companies that will insure under-aged drivers on their own policy. Not every carrier will but there are hundreds of companies that do so rest assured that you have options; it's just going to require that you shop around to find the right company for your needs.
