Can my insurance company prevent me from reactivating a policy due to a hurricane?

I was just told that I cannot reactivate my auto policy due to the hurricane event in Texas. Texas is a big state, and I’m nowhere near the affected area. I’m really worried about my risk driving without insurance. What can I do? Does someone offer temporary insurance?

Normally insurance companies will not write new policies or reinstate policies when severe weather is imminent because of the high probability of a loss. However, that is usually reserved for counties that are expected to be hit by the severe weather, which shouldn’t impact you based on your location. Personally I would recommend shopping around for a new insurance company that is willing to offer coverage to you. Unless your area is likely to be hit by damaging weather, you should be able to get insured.
