Can my insured relative drive my new, uninsured car off the lot?

I’m a minor who will be buying a car in NH and will be having it driven home to ME. I will be buying the car outright with cash and will be the only person on the title. Do I need to have the car insured before having it driven off the lot (by a relative) or can they drive it home since they’re insured?

Even if your relative is insured, they cannot drive the car home without insurance. Their coverage does not extend to your new vehicle unless they choose to add it to their policy.

You’ll need your own insurance regardless as it’s mandated. We can quote you with several carriers at The Zebra. You can also give us a call at 888-807-3823.

If you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to ask. For more information, see our additional resources below.
