Question
If my car was fully paid for, can I still file a claim?
A driver fell asleep at the wheel and totaled my car. However, the car had full coverage and was full paid for. There was no police report filed, so can I still file a claim?
Answer
Having "full coverage" is a bit of a misnomer. It really refers to having both comprehensive and collision coverage. In this instance, the collision coverage would pay for the damage to your car. However, since it sounds like the car was a total loss, then your car insurance company will pay for what the car is worth. We highly recommend reporting the accident to your insurance company, even though it may negatively impact your rates in the future. We have some more information on what to expect when filing a claim and the next steps to take, if you're curious. Good luck!
