Is car insurance tax deductible?

I work from home and use my car occasionally to pick up office supplies and run errands. Can I deduct my car insurance expense from my taxes?

You can deduct your car insurance expense from your taxes if you are using your vehicle for business purposes. If you use your vehicle for both personal and business purposes, you will have to calculate how much you’re using the vehicle for business as opposed to personal reasons. I recommend keeping any receipts or documentation of the use of your vehicle to prove business use. Our publication, Quoted, has touched on this subject so I recommend reading the article here. Your question might best be answered by contacting a local tax professional.
