Do I have to contact my insurance after an accident with a rental car?

Hi I rented a car from budget and declined insurance paid with amex. I got hit by someone who ran a red light. Car had very little body damage but the impact was on the rear driver wheel. Car needed to be towed, airbags not deployed. Rear Axle damage maybe? I had a witness, other driver acknowledged fault even though she denied at first. I have a statement from her to that effect, we exchanged info. I contact my am ex and filed a claim, i also started a claim on her state farm policy. I feel like i should contact my insurance company also but not sure if that is the wisest thing to do. Accident was a week ago..i returned the rental car they changed out for me yesterday.

You've taken all of the right steps to have the claim taken care of. The only thing you need to do is contact your insurance company. Most insurance companies require you to report any incident that you were involved in, even if a claim is not filed with them. Not at fault accidents will not impact your rate as much as an at-fault accident. If you do not report this to your insurance company they can choose to not renew your policy for not abiding by there rules and guidelines. Here is more information on what to expect when you file a claim. Good luck and if you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask.
