Question

If I damaged my car 6 months ago, is it too late to report it to my insurance company?

I dented my car in a parking lot 6 months ago (my fault). Life has been incredibly hectic and I have not reported the accident until now. Is it too late to file a claim? Will insurance jack up my premiums and not pay the claim because I delayed reporting it?

Your delay in reporting the damage should not keep your company from fixing your vehicle. Technically in California, you have 2 years to file a claim for damage to your property. Your rate, however, is another story. Unless the dent was caused by someone else or was due to a comprehensive claim like weather damage or hitting an animal, your insurance company is probably going to categorize the damage as being your fault and your rate is likely to increase at the policy renewal. That being said, you should still be able to file a claim without much issue.
