Question

I didn't call the police after an accident

I hit a pole at the store when it was raining. What should I do because I didn’t call the police? It was raining and when I pulled up to the store my foot slipped off the break and I hit the pole. I didn’t call the cops because no one else was involved and I had to go to work.

There are a couple of ways to look at things. You are able to file a claim with your insurance company for the damage to your vehicle, regardless of if you filed a police report. The statute of limitations for property damage in Mississippi is 3 years. However, you would be committing insurance fraud if you tried to attribute the damage to something other than the pole.  The other side of this is the damage you did to the pole. If there were cameras in the area and they reviewed the footage, you could be charged with a hit-and-run which is typically the most expensive violation you can be charged with. I would survey the damage you caused and weigh your options.  Best of luck!
