Discounts on car insurance after taking a professional safety course for teens
Are there any discounts for teen drivers if they take a school sponsored course? My daughters are both learning to drive and hope to get license by late summer. There is a driving course sponsored through their school. Will that help me save on insurance if they take a professionally paid for course? Also, my credit rating is in the 820s and I have paid off my car this month. Will that get me any discounts when adding them to insurance?
While it's common for some insurance companies to give young drivers discounts after a professional driving course, it would really depend on your particular company. Although it's probably a good idea regardless for your daughters to take a driving course, I would call a representative at your insurance company prior to paying for the course. For your second question, the combination of having a car paid off, good credit, and adding your daughters to your policy wouldn't get you a discount. You might be entitled to a "multi-driver" discount if there were no other drivers prior to you and now your daughters. Other than that, I would prepare for your premium to jump up quite a bit.
