Question
Do I need additional insurance if I am working DoorDash as a side job?
I have a full coverage policy already, is this sufficient for DoorDash?
Answer
When you're delivering food, you're effectively using your vehicle for a commercial purpose. Most policies do not cover you to do a side job, such as rideshare or food delivery, without a special endorsement. If you're in an accident and it is discovered that you were using the vehicle in a commercial capacity, your insurance can deny the claim.
I would talk to your agent or insurance company and see what options they have so you're sufficiently protected while working. You may end up needing a commercial auto policy if you cannot add a business-use option to your personal policy. Learn more here for more information on car insurance for delivery drivers.
