Question

Do I need to report a claim I filed if the homeowner didn't follow up with it?

I filed a claim for a mailbox I backed into, but the homeowner didn't follow through with it. I need to switch insurance and am getting insurance rates. I'm wondering if it's necessary to note that I filed the claim even though it isn't going forward. Do I need to report?

Thanks for the question. If the claim was never paid out, you don't really need to mark it down as an accident. Most companies run reports on claims, so they would likely find it anyway. However, I wouldn't raise my own rates by reporting an accident that may not actually count against me. They may even show it as not at fault or zero paid and won't affect your new quotes.
