Should I file a claim to repair my Tesla?

I've taken the vehicle in for repair estimates and have been quoted about $2,400 and the deductible on my policy is $1,000. I live in Houston, but my car insurance is in the state of New Jersey. The repair shop said that it would take between 2 and 3 weeks for the repairs to be finished. Is it worth it to file a claim?

Our State of Insurance report (page 58) shows that an accident in New Jersey has an average impact of $1,228 in additional premium per year. Since accidents will impact rates for 3 years, it may make the most sense to cover the damage on your Tesla out of your own pocket. Although the accident may have happened in Texas, the impact to your rate has to be considered for New Jersey since that is the state where your policy is written. If you can't afford to cover the damage yourself then the only other option would be to file a claim. You should also look into having your policy changed over to Texas if you are now living in the state full time. Your claim probably won't be denied, but you're required to insure your vehicle using the address where you currently reside.
