Question

Do I have to file a claim if I my vehicle was the only one damaged?

I bumped a tree when I was driving home recently and crunched the front of my car. Since my car is really old I’m pretty sure that it is totaled. Is it worth filing a claim?

You don’t have to file a claim; that decision is completely up to you. If you want to be compensated for your vehicle, though, you will have to file a claim. Keep in mind that your policy must include collision coverage and your vehicle must be worth more than your deductible for you to receive any insurance payout for the car. You will want to consider the value of your car, pre-crash, and your deductible and decide if the money you will get is worth filing a claim.
