How do I get insurance with a medical claim on my driving record?

I'm a 61 year old female with a good credit score and also a good driving record up until May 2016 when I was involved in accident that was not my fault. The other driver ran a stop sign, but since New York is a no fault state, my previous insurance company paid $8000 dollars in medical bills for me. I now have a 2002 Chevy Impala and would like to get liability insurance. My previous insurance company, Geico, won't cover me anymore. I started driving at 25 years old and have had a good driving record, but now i'm having trouble getting insurance. What can I do?

It can be tough to find insurance coverage in New York state after you have been injured in an accident, even if it wasn't your fault. Your best bet is to compare rates with as many companies as possible to find a company willing to insure you. Even if the accident was not your fault, the medical payout might be what is keeping you from finding coverage. You may have to try a non-standard insurance company until that incident passes 3 years. Long story short, the more companies you check with, the more likely you are to find a policy.
