Question
How do I handle car insurance after my husband's death?
If my husband passed away, and I have never had a license, should I keep his insurance current? Or does insurance cover him or the car? My husband passed away on Sunday. I don't drive but I want to keep his car legal in case I need someone to drive me somewhere in it. Does the driver's insurance cover this, or how do I handle it?
Answer
I'm sorry to hear your husband has passed. Every company is different when it comes to their process when a spouse passes away. I would contact your agent to see what the options are. Many times you can put the policy in your name and list anyone that would be a regular driver. The only concern is you don't have a license and not all companies will insure you without a license. If your current company will not insure you then we can quote you with several companies at The Zebra or you can give us a call at 888-807-3823. Good luck and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
