Question

How do I get a false renters claim taken off my record?

I am trying to get homeowners insurance, but when agents search my history it shows that I have had 2 claims in 3 years. One of those was legitimate: my moped was stolen. The second was after my car was broken into. I called my renter's insurance provider to discuss whether a claim would be necessary. We concluded one would not, since the items lost would not meet my deductible. Is there any way to get this claim off of my record since a claim was not made?

I'm sorry that you're experiencing this. I would get two things done. First, I would call my prior insurance company to see how they have the claims marked. Next, I would have them send confirmation that the claim was dropped or that it was zero paid. Most companies you are shopping with will allow you to dispute the claim if you have proof that it is not legitimate. A lot of computers simply don't look at the payouts when marking claims, but an agent should be able to assist in making sure you are rated properly.
