Question
If I backed into an uninsured car, do I still need to file a claim to fix the car?
I caused minor damage to the rear side panel, they had no insurance and didn't want to call the police. Do I still need to file a claim to fix their car?
Answer
Even if the vehicle you backed into was uninsured, it is still your responsibility to pay for the damages if you were at-fault. If the other party doesn't want to go through insurance, then they don't have to. If it's just minor damage, it may be cheaper to pay for it out-of-pocket. See more info on when to file a claim.
An at-fault accident on your record can raise your rate by an average of 44% (if the amount of damage ranges from $1-2K) and almost 50% if the damage exceeds $2K.
