If my policy ended before they sent me a check for a totaled vehicle, do I still need to pay for another policy?

I hit an animal before my policy ended and the insurance company declared it totalled. A new policy was started and automatically charged before I received the check for the totalled vehicle. I've now cancelled the automatic payments, but I’m wondering if I need to pay for this new policy to get the check from a crash that happened during my first policy?

If you no longer have the vehicle and you don't intend on insuring a new vehicle with the same company, you should be able to back date cancel it to the day after the accident. Your best bet is to call your carrier’s customer service line and see what they can do for you. We hope this is resolved for you soon!
