Question

If I’m involved in an accident in a work vehicle, will my personal insurance be impacted?

I was driving one of our company vehicles when I turned left at a light and hit a curb on the passenger side. The bumper and front wheel were damaged so I contacted our company’s insurance provider. I’m worried now that this accident is going to hurt my rate with my personal insurance company.

While it’s unlikely that the company’s insurance carrier will notify your personal provider, the accident will probably end up on your driving record. Most insurance companies don’t run driving reports after you’ve already been a customer, but the accident could impact your rate if you were to switch to a new insurance company in the next 3 years. If you do end up looking for a new company, make sure to list the accident on any quotes you receive and compare rates with as many companies as possible to find the best option.
