If I'm involved in a multi-car pileup but did not cause the accident, can I still be held liable for damage to other vehicles? There was a four-car accident and I was the second vehicle to be hit. My car didn't have any damage, but the car I was pushed into is damaged on two sides. Luckily there were no injuries, but my policy had canceled for non-payment about 12 hours before the accident. I was already fined $500 for no insurance and I'm worried that I will have to pay for the other driver's damage out of pocket. Will I be considered at-fault?

In a multi-car crash, fault is extremely difficult to determine so I can't tell you with any certainty if you will be held responsible for any damage. I will say that fault can be spread to multiple drivers in these situations (called comparative fault or negligence), but ultimately, fault will have to be determined by the insurance adjuster(s) handling the claim. Your best bet would be to contact your insurance company to see if there is any way that you can have your policy reinstated and if you'd be covered for the accident.
