Question

If I'm looking to get renters insurance on a short-term Airbnb rental, what's the best way to go about it?

The homeowner of the Airbnb has a homeowners policy with liability coverage, but I still want to take any necessary precautions as I will be staying in a place that's not mine. Also, if I apply for renters/liability insurance on top of the host's, do I need to put in my current address or the address of the Airbnb where I'm staying?

I certainly understand your concern, but you cannot get a renters policy for an Airbnb you are temporarily residing in. If you have a renters policy for your current address, your liability coverage will cover any damage you cause to the Airbnb (up to your liability limit). If you're worried about exceeding your liability limit, you can increase it by speaking to a representative at your insurance provider. Bear in mind, that will increase your premium.

If you don't have a current renters policy but have a permanent address, I recommend purchasing one. They're generally pretty inexpensive and can protect your belongings and personal assets in the event of an accident. See here for more information on renters insurance.
