If I'm on social security can that lower my car insurance
If I get social security check every month is there help with getting car insurance?
Unfortunately, your income isn't a rating factor for your car insurance. While there are some programs for low-income drivers, that might help you, I don't know any based in Louisiana. Moreover, because of the high claim payouts for car insurance in Louisiana, it does tend to be one of the more expensive states. Many popular car insurance companies cannot even afford to write policies there. Here are my suggestions for you in order to help reduce your insurance premium:
- Reduce coverage- if your vehicle is worth less than $4,000, you might not need your collision and comprehensive coverage. You can determine the value of your vehicle through online resources such as Kelley Blue Book and NADA online. If your vehicle is worth more than $4,000, you should keep these coverages. But you can still save by raising your deductible. Because your premium and deductibles are inversely related, you can lower one by raising another.
- Shop around frequently- your current rate won't be affected by shopping with other companies. Use our comparison calculator to see competitive rates from other companies.
- Double-check for all available discounts- you can contact your insurance company or check out our list of commonly accepted discounts.
Although Louisiana is a fairly expensive state for insurance, it is not impossible to find something affordable. Best of luck!
