Question

What insurance should I get if I drive my sister 6 miles a day and drive a rental once a month?

My 60 yr old sister (doesn't drive) will be buying a cheap car and I will be driving her (62 yrs old with a very good driving record). What should we do about car insurance in this case?

There are a couple of things to consider to get insured. Because your sister will own the vehicle, any insurance policy you get will require you list her as an additional interest, just like if you were financing a vehicle. This means she owns the vehicle and any claims checks will be made out to her. Because you aren't driving very often, I recommend looking into telematics to help lower your premium. Telematics programs use the way you drive and how much you drive to help lower your premium. As for the rental vehicle, that can depend on the policy and insurance company. Many popular insurance providers will extend your coverage to a rental vehicle. As you're shopping around, I would verify your coverage applies to a rental vehicle so you don't have to purchase expensive rental insurance. Good luck and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
