Question

My homeowners insurance is canceling my coverage based on us having a home daycare. How do we get coverage?

We got new homeowners insurance and after a month they decided to cancel the policy due to a google search as we are running a family daycare in our home. We have been running a licensed daycare in our home for the last 15 years. We carry $600,000 separate liability coverage for the daycare and have not had a problem in the past.

If it was not disclosed to your insurer at the time of finalizing your policy that you're running a business out of your home, it is within the company's right to void it.

While you likely won't need a home daycare endorsement if you already have separate liability insurance, every potential home insurance company will want to know that your home is also a place of business. Learn more about home daycare insurance here.
