Do I need to file a claim if the other driver's insurance is taking care of it?

Do I need to file an insurance claim? Hey there! I drive a 2013 Cadillac ATS and today while one of my co-workers was getting out of her car she hit her door on the side of my car causing a dent and paint chips. She told me that she was filing an insurance claim with her company so that she could pay for the damage done to my car. I was just wondering if she files a claim do I also have to file a claim?

Since she will be filing a claim, you do not need to file a claim. Her insurance company will be the one that pays for the damages. With that being said, The claim can show up on your record as a not-at-fault claim. Not-at-fault claims can slightly impact your rate for up to three years. You may want to consider taking care of the damages out of pocket instead of going through the insurance company. Here is an article about when to consider not filing a claim. If you do file a claim, here is an article on what to expect. Good luck and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
