How do I prove my car was stolen?

My car was stolen and I need to file a claim. I know my comprehensive insurance covers me for theft. My leasing company is asking for proof that it was stolen so they can cease charging me my monthly lease payments. How do I go about proving that?

Your proof of a stolen vehicle is the police report. You will need to call the police, if you haven’t already, and report the vehicle as stolen. You will need the vehicle’s information handy such as make, model, year, color, license plate, and any information that can help track the vehicle. The police will enter the information into their stolen vehicle database. From there, you will want to contact your insurance company as well to report the vehicle as stolen. You’re right, your comprehensive coverage does cover if your vehicle has been stolen. Your claims department will walk you through the reimbursement process which in turn help settle the issue with your leasing department.
