Your companies insurance company can find out about the incident if you file a claim. Most insurance companies report claims to CLUE, which is a database that holds claims and insurance information to be shared amongst insurance companies.

If I'm hit my a driver with the same insurance company as mine, do I file the claim under my policy or the other driver's?

Filing the claim on your policy means you are going to have to pay your collision deductible and could possibly impact your rate. Personally, I would not agree to do that.

Can I insure a travel trailer with a different company than the one that insures my car?

Yes you absolutely can. There is no requirement that both be insured with the same company.

How do I decide if the insurance policy covering my 2007 Acura MDX should be liability only?

There are a few things to consider when deciding between a "full coverage" or liability only policy: Determine an estimated fair market value of your vehicle. While Kelley Blue Book may offer useful estimates, I recommend using NADA guide since most insurance companies use them to determine a vehicle's value at the time of a claim. Decide on a deductible.

If I’m involved in an accident in a work vehicle, will my personal insurance be impacted?

While it's unlikely that the company's insurance carrier will notify your personal provider, the accident will probably end up on your driving record. Most insurance companies don't run driving reports after you've already been a customer, but the accident could impact your rate if you were to switch to a new insurance company in the next 3 years.

If I was driving a company van and backed into a vehicle, can I use my personal insurance to cover the damage?

Technically insurance coverage follows the vehicle so you should be filing a claim with the company that insures the vehicle you were driving. If you attempt to file a claim with your personal insurance company, they are going to investigate the vehicles involved and that would quickly lead to them denying the claim.

Can I insure multiple vehicles with different carriers?

Each company has different underwriting requirements so you should keep shopping to find one that will allow for your situation. It's best to ask carriers about this before starting a quote so you avoid wasting time with a company that will not insure your one car.

Do car insurance companies share information?

The new insurance company is likely to find out about the accident, but that will come from your driving reports when you buy your policy. The majority of insurance companies request a motor vehicle report (MVR) and a comprehensive loss underwriting exchange (CLUE) report to verify the accuracy of a new customer's driving record.
