Do adult children have to be added to a policy when occasionally driving a parent's car if they have their own policy?

They would only need to be listed as drivers if they live in your household and/or drive the truck on a "regular" basis. Most companies consider "regular" use as 12 times or more per year.

Which insurers will cover vehicles not manufactured for sale in the US?

Your best bet would likely be to contact a local, independent agent in your area because most national insurance companies will not cover a vehicle of that type. Independent agents normally offer a multitude of insurance options and there may be a few companies willing to insure your vehicle.

What should I do if I damaged an old car and don't want the insurance company to total the vehicle?

You are right to be concerned about the car being totaled if you file an insurance claim, so if you can afford to pay for the repairs out of pocket then I would recommend doing that. If you were to file a claim, the car's owner might have the option to purchase is back from the insurance company but that could easily be avoided by simply covering the repairs yourself.

If I’m involved in an accident in a work vehicle, will my personal insurance be impacted?

While it's unlikely that the company's insurance carrier will notify your personal provider, the accident will probably end up on your driving record. Most insurance companies don't run driving reports after you've already been a customer, but the accident could impact your rate if you were to switch to a new insurance company in the next 3 years.

In the State of Minnesota, does a registered vehicle have to have insurance if it is not being driven?

Technically, if you have the vehicle registered then it's supposed to be insured, regardless of whether or not it's being driven. If you are wanting to remove insurance from a vehicle you're supposed to return the registration tags to your local registration office.

Can I keep my car registered in Rhode Island, but have my auto insurance written as a New York State policy?

The problem would be with the state of Rhode Island concerning your registration. If your vehicle is no longer insured in the state then you will be expected to turn in your registration tags and get new tags in the New York.

Coverage & Claims

Will my car insurance claim be denied if i got into a wreck 1 week after reinstating my policy?

If your policy was active at the time of the accident then you should be covered. While the insurance company may be a little suspicious at the timing of your claim with regard to it recently being reinstated, you should still be covered assuming that there was no fraudulent activity.

How can I return a car I bought from a private seller?

Your best bet is to contact an attorney. You may even consider contacting the police department, but I would recommend contacting a legal representative first since an attorney should be able to assist you in getting this other party to cooperate. You wouldn't be able to file a claim for the vehicle since you technically never owned it so legal representation would be my recommendation.

Coverage & Claims

If I was driving a company van and backed into a vehicle, can I use my personal insurance to cover the damage?

Technically insurance coverage follows the vehicle so you should be filing a claim with the company that insures the vehicle you were driving. If you attempt to file a claim with your personal insurance company, they are going to investigate the vehicles involved and that would quickly lead to them denying the claim.

What do I do if my parents left their vehicle to me in their will?

In most cases, people listed as an additional driver on an auto policy where the primary policyholder dies are still covered to drive until the renewal of the policy. Since the primary policyholder is no longer living, they do not have the ability to give another unlisted driver permission to operate the vehicle.

Will my insurance company pay me directly for a claim?

Unless your vehicle was totaled, the insurance company normally pays the repair facility directly after you pay your collision deductible. You would have to speak with them about making other arrangements for the claim payout. As far as whether or not you should file a claim?
