Question

Why does my wife with a suspended driver license have to be on my car insurance?

Legally she can't drive until her license is valid again, but my insurance company is forcing me to keep her on the policy. Why is that?

Even though your wife isn't supposed to drive, she still has regular access to the vehicle. Your spouse must be listed to account for a person of driving age that lives in your house. You may be able to have her excluded from your policy. This means she'll be listed as your wife, but will not be covered to drive your car and should impact your rate as a driver. At some point, it is likely that she will be required to carry an SR22 to get her license reinstated and will need to be listed as a driver at that time.
