The cost of replacing the windshield on my 2015 Mercedes S550 is more than $2300. Do you think filing a claim will increase my rates? The windshield has an electronic display in the glass, that’s why it’s so expensive.
There are a few things to think about. Your comprehensive coverage would cover your windshield damage. Comprehensive claims will stay on your record for up to three years. This type of claim will not impact your rates as much as an accident would but it will impact your rates. On average, a comprehensive claim will raise your rates $98 per year. So, over three years, that would be much less expensive than the value of the damage. Because of that, I would recommend filing a claim for the damage.
If you do file a claim, your deductible will apply (unless you have additional glass coverage). I would check with your insurance company to see what coverage you have. Also, here is more information on when to consider not filing a claim. Good luck and if you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to ask.
