Question

Will my insurer honor a claim if my ex-husband took the car?

I am going through a divorce. Even though the courts allowed me to have one of our vehicles, my ex wants this vehicle also, so he and his lawyer keep dragging me back to court.

I kept full coverage on this vehicle and recently hit a deer. The claim was in the works when my ex recently came and took the vehicle away. I immediately called and canceled the insurance (my insurance, in my name). What will happen to the accident claim?

Sorry to hear about the situation. If needed, the claim will still be honored because the insurance was in effect at the time of the loss. However, now that the vehicle is gone it's hard to say what will happen (or if you even want the claim to go ahead). It's unlikely that anything will happen unless your ex-husband cooperates. I would advise you to reach out to your insurance company to explain the situation to see what they would recommend.
