Will my rate go up for filing a claim even if I have accident forgiveness?
I hit a barrier in a parking garage and damaged my car. My deductible is $500 and the damage will cost around $3,000 to repair. We do have accident forgiveness on our policy with Allstate, but our other vehicle was involved in an accident last year so I'm not sure if it will apply for the most recent accident. Would the accident in the parking garage cause our rate to go up?
It really will depend on how your previous accident was categorized. If you were considered to be at fault in the previous crash then your accident forgiveness was likely used during that particular claim. If you were considered not at fault then it's highly likely that your accident forgiveness is still intact. It might be worth a call to your insurance company simply to ask if you still have it. One thing to keep in mind, however, is that the most recent incident will be considered an at-fault collision claim. If you do have accident forgiveness then it shouldn't impact your rate with Allstate, but if you switch to a new insurance company within 3 years of the claim then it will impact your rate with the new company.
