Question

Why won’t my insurance cover a hit and skip to my car?

There were 2 witnesses and I have uninsured and underinsured coverage. My car was involved in a hit & skip 2:48 am and 2 people saw the car take off. My insurance won’t cover it because they don’t have the drivers information and said they don’t have to take care of the damages since I live in Ohio. I have 2 unbiased witnesses. Why don’t insurance companies tell you this when you’re buying it, up front? I believe it was our neighbor cause his car was smashed in at the same time but he hid it in his garage till he got it fixed. I’m stuck with a badly damaged car and am on SSDI. Please help, what can I do to get my car fixed or totaled out???

I think I am missing some information. I don’t know what you mean by they will not cover the damages because you live in Ohio. However, what I recommend is the following:
  1. First, you need to find out what kind of uninsured coverage you have. There is uninsured motorist bodily injury, which would cover your injuries if you were hurt in an accident caused by an uninsured driver. There is also uninsured motorists property damage. This covers your vehicle if you are hit by someone without insurance or a hit and run.
  2. If you have uninsured motorist property damage, you would need to provide a police report to prove it was a hit and run. Your best option is to call your company and find out what the exact coverage is and if there is anything you can do to have the damages covered. Good luck and if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask.
