Allstate and GEICO are two of the most popular car insurance companies in the US. Both companies boast A+ financial strength ratings from AM Best and Consumer Reports ratings of 81 or higher. When shopping policies, the premiums each carrier offers based on drivers’ credit scores, driving history, age, and vehicle type.
Drivers at every credit level will find cheaper rates through GEICO than through Allstate. If you have a very poor credit history, you can save $193 annually by electing GEICO. Drivers with exceptional credit scores of 800 or better save $137 per year on average with GEICO vs. Allstate.
Very Poor (300-579)
Very Good (740-799)
Allstate and GEICO handle most citations and violations in a similar fashion, charging drivers with accidents or DUIs on their record nearly matching rates. The one exception is reckless driving. If you have a reckless driving conviction on your record, consider GEICO over Allstate — it could save you more than $400 per year.

At-fault accident (damage >$1,000)
The GEICO vs. Allstate decision may come down to the variety of vehicle you drive. If you’re a truck- or minivan-owner, GEICO could save you approximately $70 per year. If you drive a sedan or SUV, choose Allstate over GEICO to save about $50 annually.
As a teen driver, you’re going to pay a lot for car insurance, so it’s important to save wherever you can. GEICO is a more affordable option than Allstate for teen drivers, charging an average 17-year-old only $987 per 6-month policy. Conversely, Allstate charges teen drivers more than $2,200 per 6-month term.
