MetLife car insurance coverage options

MetLife offers all standard auto insurance coverage options including comprehensive, collision, and liability — along with uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage, personal injury protection (PIP), and rental car coverage. Below are additional features and options available with a MetLife car insurance policy. Note that some of these options may not be available in your state. Check with your MetLife representative before purchasing a policy.

New car replacement

In the event you suffer a total loss of your brand new vehicle within the first year of ownership or 15,000 miles (whichever comes first), MetLife will repair or replace your car with no deduction for depreciation. However, this does not apply for cars under a lease contract longer than six months and non-owned cars.

Special parts replacement coverage

If certain auto parts become damaged in a covered loss, MetLife will replace them. This applies to parts like tires, batteries, brake parts, and steering or electrical wiring, but it does not apply if these parts are stolen. MetLife will replace these without deducting for depreciation.

Enhanced rental car damage coverage

This provides additional coverage if your rental car is damaged in a covered loss. MetLife will work with the rental car agency to ensure additional expenses don't fall on you, including fees and charges, the damaged rental car's loss of market value, and loss of use of that vehicle.

Glass repairs without a deductible

Auto glass damage happens even to the best of us. MetLife will repair your windshield if it becomes chipped or cracked, and waive your deductible.

Roadside assistance service and towing reimbursement

If your car breaks down on the side of the road, MetLife will reimburse roadside assistance fees and also cover the cost for towing.

Gap coverage for leases or loans

Even if the amount remaining on your lease or loan exceeds the value of your vehicle, MetLife will pay off your car if it's totaled in an accident.

Legal defense cost coverage

MetLife will cover your legal fees if you're sued, and also reimburse up to $200 per day to compensate for your lost wages.

MetLife discounts and reward programs

It's smart to look for discounts when shopping for car insurance, and MetLife offers a few options to help lower your monthly premiums. Again, keep in mind these may vary depending on where you reside.

Deductible savings benefit

You can earn $50 for every year you don't make a claim (with a maximum sum of $250), which may be used toward your deductible for a covered loss.

Multi-policy discount

It's always smart to bundle your insurance policies from an insurer, as it can lead to discounted insurance rates. If you buy more than one type of insurance, e.g. auto and homeowners or auto and life insurance, MetLife offers up to 10% off on a bundle.

Multi-car discount

You can enjoy reduced rates if you insure more than two cars under the same policy. Consult your MetLife agent for details.

Good student discount

Your efforts in school can yield some savings when shopping for new car insurance. MetLife's good student discount is applicable for students under age 25 enrolled in high school, community college, full-time college, graduate school, and people in vocational or technical programs who meet MetLife's academic requirements.

Student away discount

Students younger than 25 can take advantage of this discount provided they meet MetLife's specific requirements: they must reside at an educational institution at least 100 miles from home and have limited access to the insured vehicle. This is a useful insurance discount if you are seldom behind the wheel, but want the assurance of having insurance coverage when you do need to drive.

Superior driver discount

MetLife rewards drivers with a discount if every person on the policy has an excellent driving record.

Defensive driver discount

If you have been licensed for at least two years and complete a MetLife-approved defensive driving course, you can be eligible for a discount that applies every year for three years. This course aims to teach and reinforce good driving habits and generally make you a safer and more defensive driver. You can even take this course online.

Safety and anti-theft devices discount

For installing a qualifying safety system or anti-theft device — like passive and active disabling systems — MetLife may reward you with a discount on your car insurance policy.

My Journey® program

Available in a handful of states, My Journey® is MetLife's telematics program. If you enroll and download the mobile app, it will track your trips, assess your driving habits, and assign you a driving score. You can get up to 10% off your car insurance just for enrolling, which can then be adjusted up to 30% off depending on the safe driving score you receive at the time of renewal. The program lasts up to six months but you get to keep the discount on your premium.

Additional lines of insurance through MetLife

Auto insurance is only one of a few lines of insurance MetLife offers. Below is a more comprehensive list of MetLife's other insurance products.

Is MetLife the best insurance company for you?

With solid financial strength and a JD Power rating of 3 out of 5, MetLife definitely has the ability to provide the car insurance you're looking for. The company's coverage options, features, and discounts are on par with competing insurance companies, and you can feel confident that you'll be insured and covered if you get in an accident. Some of MetLife's auto insurance options, like special parts replacement and glass repairs without a deductible may be especially useful if you encounter fender benders or more minor accidents.

You should always shop around for the best rate when you're selecting a new car insurance policy, however. Because there are so many factors insurance companies take into account when determining your premium, like your age, location, driving history, and credit score, the cost may vary greatly between insurers. You should select the right policy for your situation and your vehicle, one that fits your budget and provides the level of coverage you're looking for. Enter your ZIP code below to uncover and explore rates not just from MetLife, but from dozens of other insurance companies across the country.
