Do I need to unfreeze my credit to get a quote?

You should be able to get preliminary rates with your credit still frozen. However, in order to run all of the reports (credit, claims history, violation history, etc.) and finalize your auto insurance rates, many carriers will require a credit check which would require you to unfreeze your credit. Without the ability to check your credit score, insurance companies may assume higher risk and charge increased premiums.

If you want, you can use The Zebra to get auto quotes from multiple carriers today with your credit still frozen, but again you'll likely need to unfreeze your credit in order to finalize those rates. Luckily, it's easy to do online, over the phone or by mail.
