Question

Will requesting roadside assistance impact premium increases in the future?

I paid my insurance company for the Roadside Assistance benefit. I had a couple of flat tires so I called to request RA. A few months later, my agent called to say that my premiums were going up if I made one more call to RA. Is that typical? If so, what is the point in paying for RA and then claiming it only to have your rates go up?

Unfortunately, using your roadside assistance is considered a claim since you are using coverage on your policy. Most insurance companies will allow you to use your roadside assistance three times. This may be why your insurance rates will go up after the third claim. Since having roadside through your insurance company does impact your rates, you may want to consider an alternative roadside assistance program. Checking out our comparison of different roadside assistance programs will be helpful. Good luck and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
