Question

Can my fiancé and I share an insurance policy?

My insurance company is saying that I need my own policy, instead of sharing one with my fiancé, because we don't live together.  I only stay at my own apartment two days a week, but I stay at my fiance's address five days a week.  Does this count as "living together" for insurance purposes?

You would need to use the address of the apartment you are planning on renting. In the event of a claim, let's say a fire, your renters insurance provider will notice that the address listed on your claim doesn't match your policy paperwork. It's important to use the address where yo…

If I am leasing a car and die before the end of the lease term, can I buy insurance to cover that?

For this situation I'd actually recommend getting a life insurance policy if this is something you are concerned about. To my knowledge, there is no type of auto insurance coverage that would help with the death of a policyholder. In general, dealing with car insurance when a policyholder dies …

Can I insure my wife's car if the title is in her name?

If you are married then there shouldn't be any issue with you insuring the vehicle. If the registration is also in her name then she will need to be listed on the policy. In fact, a married couple generally qualifies for lower rates than people listed on separate policies so it would make the …

If my daughter caused less than $1,000 in damage to another car, should we still file a claim or pay out of pocket?

I would agree with your assumption. In Kentucky, an at-fault accident impacts rates by an average of $917 per year in 2016. Since the accident will impact her rate for 3 years, that's quite a bit more than the cost of the repair. I would recommend paying for the other driver's damage out …
