Question

Will my insurance company drop me for not changing my address when I moved?

I moved from New Hampshire to Rhode Island and simply forgot to change my info. I got hit by another car and now my insurance company knows I moved. Could they deny the claim or drop my coverage?

Insurance regulations are very state-specific which is why when you move to a different state you are required to get a new policy. Therefore, it will be up to your current insurance company to decide whether or not they will pay out on the claim. Unfortunately, if they do not you will be responsible for the damages. In terms of you getting dropped, that's unlikely unless your old company doesn't operate in your new state. Either way, you will want to get a new policy in Rhode Island as soon as possible.

Good luck, and don't hesitate to ask if you have any other questions.

If I have an accident in a company vehicle and the company's insurance policy is covering the damage, do I have to tell my personal insurance company?

Is a police report required when a parked car is hit?

Texas law states you must file a police report if the accident resulted in physical injury (or death) or property damage exceeding least $1,000. If your daughter is filing an uninsured motorist claim (i.e., a hit and run), I recommend filing a police report. You can submit a Driver's Crash Rep…

What's the difference between an insurance carrier and an insurance agency?

Great question! The word "carrier" in terms of insurance is just a synonym for company. An insurance carrier is the insurance company that covers your vehicle and is listed on your policy (e.g. Allstate, State Farm, etc.). An insurance "agency" is a business that sells insurance…
