Question

Is Acuity’s zero-deductible glass thing real, or only on certain cars?

Windshields here get destroyed every winter when you drive to and from the mountains a lot. If I switch to Acuity, do they really cover chip repairs or glass with low/no deductible, or is that one of those ‘depends on your state’ perks?

Yes, Acuity does offer full glass coverage as an optional add-on in many states, especially in the Midwest and mountain regions where rock chips and cracks are common. Without it, your windshield repair would fall under your comprehensive deductible, which might be $500 or $1,000—so it’s easy to see why people add this.

With full glass coverage, Acuity will:

  • Cover chip repairs at no cost in most states
  • Pay for full windshield replacement with little or no deductible
  • Let you choose from local glass shops (not just big chains)

Availability does vary by state, so you’ll want to confirm if it’s offered where you live. States like Colorado, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, and Illinois commonly have access to it.

💡 Tip: Ask if the policy uses OEM (original manufacturer) glass or after market glass for replacements—not everyone cares, but if you drive a newer car or one with lane assist or cameras, this can matter for safety calibration.

If you want to compare Acuity’s glass coverage vs. other car insurance companies The Zebra has agents who can walk you through the differences so you’re not guessing.

Do I pay a deductible for a liability claim?

Good question! With Safe Auto (and most insurers), deductibles only apply when you have collision or comprehensive coverage. Since you only carry liability insurance, your own vehicle isn’t covered in an at-fault accident, which means there’s no deductible to pay. Here’s how it breaks down:Your car:…

I scraped my car in a parking garage and it's a $1600 repair. Should I pay out of pocket or file an insurance claim?

I would not file a claim. With your $500 deductible, your insurance company would pay out $1100 for the damages — but in California, your premium could also increase by 42% over three years if you're cited for an at-fault collision (which this would be considered as). You would save more money…
