Question

Does having a local Auto-Owners adjuster actually make claims easier?

My car got banged up in that hailstorm last spring, and my old insurance company was a mess — I kept getting bounced around to different people. My buddy says Auto-Owners uses local adjusters instead of some call center. Is that actually true? Does it really make things easier or is that just what they say?

For a lot of people, it really does. One of the biggest differences with Auto-Owners is that they still do things a little old-school — in a good way. When you file a claim, it usually lands on the desk of someone who actually works in your region, not in a national call center two time zones away. That local setup means you’re more likely to get a call or visit from someone who already knows the body shops, tow yards, and even the weather patterns in your area.

That can make a big difference during stressful moments — especially after a hailstorm or fender-bender when you just want someone to show up and get things moving. Of course, if there’s a major event and everyone’s filing claims at once, response times can still slow down a bit.

Overall, Auto-Owners tends to stand out for hands-on claims service and real communication, not just an app notification. If you’re comparing insurers, it’s worth asking how each one handles claims locally — because in a crunch, having a real person nearby can matter more than the size of the company.

Someone gave me the wrong insurance information after a claim

I would first try contacting the insurance company they gave you. It could be they are using a new card they received for their policy renewal that hasn't started yet. If they truly did not have insurance at the time of the accident, they will have to pay for the damages out of pocket. If that…

If my car was hit by a family member, can I claim the damage with my insurance company to help them avoid a higher rate?

You could claim the damage as a hit-and-run, but that's technically not what happened so I would avoid lying to your insurance company. I would recommend getting a repair estimate first so you can factor that into your decision. The only way to avoid causing an increase to your family member&#…

An automated security gate hit my door, should I file a claim or get them to pay for the damages?

It's unlikely the company will pay for damages to your vehicle because, as you stated, you misjudged where the gate would open to. In terms of filing a claim with your insurance company, I recommend getting an estimate first to see how much the damage will cost. Especially because this type of…
