Can I get an SR22 when I don't own a car?

I was pulled over while driving my friend's car and they didn't have insurance on the vehicle. The police officer issued a ticket to me for not having insurance. Now my license is suspended and the judge said that I need SR22 insurance but I don't own a car. Do I have to buy a car now just to get an SR22?

In the event that your state has suspended your license and requires that you have an SR22 then you will need to purchase an auto insurance policy. For people who do not own a car but are required to carry an SR22 then the solution is a non-owners insurance policy. This type of policy will offer the same coverage as basic auto insurance while not being specific to a vehicle. Generally, these policies are much less expensive than a traditional auto policy and adding an SR22 will allow you to comply with the state's requirement to reinstate your license. You wouldn't need to purchase a car just to comply with your state's requirements.

Depending on your state, we might be able to help you here at The Zebra. We work with insurers across the cover who offer non-owners insurance + SR22 certifications. Our knowledgable agents can help find quotes for non-owners insurance.
