Question

Good rates with Penn, but how about claims?

I switched to Penn National last year after my local agent showed me a quote that was about $400 cheaper than what I’d been paying. I bundled my home and auto, and so far it’s been smooth sailing. When a storm knocked a tree branch onto my garage door this spring, the adjuster came out the next morning, approved the estimate, and I had my check within two weeks. I can’t complain about that kind of turnaround.

But I haven’t had any major claims yet, just the branch thing, and I’m not sure how they handle bigger losses. I wonder if Penn National’s claims are just as easy when something serious happens, or do they get harder to deal with once the stakes are higher?

That’s a fair question. Most people find Penn National quick and helpful for smaller claims. Things like roof repairs or minor car damage usually get handled fast, but bigger claims can take longer. That’s pretty common with any insurer, especially when multiple estimates or inspections are involved.

Because Penn National works through local agents and adjusters, your experience can depend on who’s handling your case. The upside is that you get personal help; the downside is that communication sometimes slows down when things get complicated.

Overall, their claims service is solid: reliable, but not flashy. Stay in touch with your agent, keep good notes, and follow up if you need updates. For most people, that’s enough to keep things moving smoothly, even when a claim is more serious. Since you've got an independent agent, you can let them know that claims satisfaction is a big deal to you if you decide to shop around again.

Will I actually save by bundling home and auto with Acuity?

With Acuity, bundling does usually save money—most people see around 8–15% off when they combine home and auto. But the bigger benefit isn’t just the discount.
