Question

Can I use my Mercury roadside assistance in my friend's car?

Does Mercury roadside assistance include lockout service if I'm in another person's car? If not, are there any roadside assistance plans that do cover issues even if you aren't driving? I feel like I should get some perks for the service I pay for, even if it isn't my car.

No — Mercury’s roadside assistance only applies to the vehicle listed on your policy. If you’re locked out of a friend’s car, their insurance or roadside provider would need to step in. If you want more flexible coverage that follows you no matter whose vehicle you’re in, you might consider programs like AAA or Auto Hero.

Many insurance companies offer roadside assistance on auto policies, but it's important to ask questions and determine what is most important to you in the service. For example, if you often ride with other drivers, ask if there is any coverage for situations like this.

Compare the features of each service and consider which ones you might use most often, and if the price makes sense. Many roadside assistance programs offer several tiers, too, so you can pick a plan that meets your budget and your (hopefully unnecessary!) needs. If you decide to shop around to see what other insurers have to offer, you can always compare car insurance quotes or reach out to one of our helpful agents.

Good luck and if you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask.
