Question

Will my Farmers roadside assistance provide towing up to 250 miles?

I am a rideshare driver and I have rideshare insurance and roadside assistance with Farmers. I took a customer on a very long trip away from my home, and my car broke down on the way back. Will I be covered to have my car towed back to my home?

Roadside assistance coverage can vary, even within the same company, so it depends on your exact Farmers policy. In general, most auto roadside assistance programs either:

  • Cover towing up to a certain dollar limit,
  • Limit towing to a set mileage (often around 15 miles), or
  • Only pay for towing to the nearest qualified repair facility.

Farmers’ roadside assistance typically falls into this model: towing to the nearest repair shop is included, and longer-distance tows may be available, but only up to your policy’s coverage limit. That means having your car hauled all the way back home may not be fully covered unless your policy specifies extended towing.

Since you’ll need to call Farmers to request service anyway, ask the representative to walk you through exactly what your roadside benefit includes. If it doesn’t cover a tow back home, you can usually still get covered for the shorter tow to a repair shop and then decide whether to pay out-of-pocket for the remaining distance.

💡 Tip for rideshare drivers: Because your work often takes you far from home, it can be worth asking Farmers about enhanced roadside coverage options or considering a third-party motor club membership (like AAA) that offers longer towing distances. That way, you’ll have peace of mind no matter how far your rides take you.
