Question
What insurance do I need for driving for DoorDash?
Do I need special insurance or "personal vehicle insurance" to cover my expenses if I were to get in a crash as a DoorDash delivery driver? I don't know whether I need to have commercial insurance.
Answer
You will actually need to get commercial insurance as a delivery driver. This type of policy is specifically designed for vehicles tied to a business or otherwise used for business purposes.
If you were going to drive for a rideshare company like Uber or Lyft, you could simply get a personal auto policy with an endorsement (called rideshare coverage), but since you are making deliveries, you unfortunately do not qualify for this type of policy.
Good luck and if you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask.
