Question

Does the name on the title affect car insurance rates?

Will our insurance rates go up if I title the car in my son's name? He is on my insurance policy but car is currently in my name. My son is on my auto policy but the car is titled in my name. He is 25 years old and I think its time the car be titled in his name. But I don't want my insurance rates to go up.

No, your rates should not change by putting the car in your son's name if he is already listed on the policy. Who the car is registered under does not impact the rate at all. You just need to make sure all drivers are listed on the policy. Good luck and if you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask. Good question, and it's a common misconception that no credit is treated the same as neutral or average credit. Unfortunately, that's usually not the case: most insurers, including in Arizona, view a blank credit file similarly to a low or "fair" credit score rather than a clean slate, since they d…

What can I do about fixing incorrect information on my driving record?

It really depends on where the accidents are listed. Insurance companies look at 2 different reports to verify your driving history. A MVR is from the DMV and shows incidents where a police officer issued a ticket or wrote an accident report. A CLUE report shows claims filed with previous insurance…

Failure to submit a breathalyzer's impact on car insurance rates?

This can be tricky to answer. In Maine, they have a law called Implied Consent. Basically, if you refuse to submit to a sobriety test, you can have your license immediately suspended. This suspension can last up to six years. Furthermore, because this is considered an administrative suspension, no …

How can my current insurer offer me a lower quote online?

Thank you for reaching out to The Zebra! There are a number of reasons that a quote can be different with the same company. One reason is that one of the quotes could have had all the reports run, while another might not have. The "reports" I'm referring to are things we insurance folks call MVR & …
