Question

Is Chubb really different, or just more expensive?

I live in Scottsdale and drive a nicer SUV. I also own a small second place up north that I only use part of the year. My current insurer keeps raising my rates, and a friend mentioned Chubb. Are they actually any different, or just more expensive?

Chubb does usually cost more, but what you’re paying for isn’t just the name. They’re known for handling things a little differently than a lot of bigger national insurers. Here are some of the key differences:

  • Claims and service: Many customers say the claims process feels more personal and responsive. You’re less likely to feel like just another number in a call center.
  • Repairs: If your SUV is in a crash, Chubb often lets you use the repair shop you trust and requires OEM (original manufacturer) parts — not cheaper substitutes.
  • Coverage value: They use “agreed value” on many auto policies. That means if your car is totaled, you get the amount you agreed on up front, not a depreciated market value.
  • Flexibility for multiple properties: Since you have that second place up north, one perk is that Chubb can bundle both of your homes, high-end vehicles, and extras (including more unique property) under one policy, which makes things easier to manage.

So yes — premiums with Chubb are usually higher than with standard carriers. Their coverage isn't for everyone, it just depends on your priorities. For people who want less hassle in claims, higher-quality repairs, and coverage that’s designed to protect more than just the basics, the extra cost can be worth it.

Sure! In North Carolina, the reinsurance facility is basically a non-profit organization that allows insurance companies to pool the risk of high-risk drivers to keep rates low for consumers and create less risk for insurance companies themselves. Since car insurance rates in North Carolina are cap…

Why is it so hard to get updates on my Shelter claim?

Unfortunately, slow follow-up is pretty common once a claim gets assigned and the adjuster is waiting on reports or repair estimates. Shelter does lean on local service, but claim communication can still get spotty if you don’t stay on top of it. The best move right now is to loop your Shelter agen…

Should I file a claim after hitting a deer with an old vehicle?

It really depends. In Arizona, a totaled vehicle is determined via a total loss formula. Meaning, your car insurance company (through their adjuster) will determine the total cost of repairs and the scrap value of the vehicle. If this value is greater than or equal to the actual cash value of your …

My claim was denied because I didn’t list my daughter

That’s frustrating, and you aren't alone in your experience. They want to know about all household members because anyone with regular access to the car…
